Doing something together with the locals has always been high in my list of priorities on my travels. Bicycle sportives are great since you have a chance to interact with lot of like-minded people. The common goal ensures there is a great sense on camaraderie even among strangers.
Here is a list of events I would like to ride at some point:
Vättern Rundan, Sweden L’Eroica, Italy
- Tartu Rattaralli, Estonia
- Retro Ronde, Belgium
- Paris-Roubaix Challenge, France
- Marmotte, France
- Styrkeproven, Norway
- L’Etape du tour
- Haute Route
- Stelvio Santini
- Mallorca 312, Spain
The same effect can be achieved in a smaller scale by attending events domestically. Just the different dialects of local cities create a different kind of atmosphere for each event. Transporting the gear abroad can be a hazzle and some of the foreign sportives are quite tough so it will be a while before I get all of these struck out of my list.
